Hi, I'm Nathan Kahle. I build internal tools and workflow systems in Support Operations at Shopify.

I spend my workdays inside the machinery of Shopify Support Operations. My focus is identifying operational bottlenecks, reducing cognitive friction for specialists, and building internal tools that make complex tasks feel effortless.
I am not a software engineer by trade. My background isn't algorithms courses or traditional computer science theory. It's operations: being in the trenches, feeling where the workflow grinds to a halt, and refusing to accept "that's just how many clicks it takes."
That perspective turns out to be an unfair advantage. When you understand the operational reality of the person using your tool, you don't build bloated architectures or over-engineered abstractions. You build the exact 50-line utility or agentic workflow that saves an hour of human frustration every single day.

We are living through a wild inflection point. For decades, having great ideas for internal tools was bottle-necked by whether an engineering queue had bandwidth to build them for you. You submitted tickets into the void; tickets died in backlog grooming.
Today, with modern AI agent loops and intent-driven design, the barrier to building has collapsed. If you have clarity of thought, understand the domain constraints, and can formulate strict specs, you can build production-grade internal software yourself. The playing field has leveled, and the people closest to the problems are now empowered to solve them.

Above everything else, I'm a father. Parenting is the ultimate masterclass in patience, perspective, and debugging chaotic non-linear systems. It has permanently cured me of overcomplicating things: if a process or tool can't be explained simply, it probably isn't ready.
🃏 Magic: The Gathering Nerd
I am a huge MTG enthusiast. Beyond the art and lore, Magic is arguably the most elegant rules engine ever conceived in gaming. The concept of "the stack," priority passing, instant-speed interaction, and navigating complex state trees appeals deeply to the same part of my brain that loves distributed systems and state machines.
